Holmesglen Private Hospital

Holmesglen Private Hospital is set to herald in a new era in the provision of healthcare for residents in Melbourne’s bayside suburbs.

The state-of-the-art hospital, set to open in 2017, will provide an extensive range of healthcare services including a 24-hour Emergency Department, Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Integrated Theatres, Cardiac Catheter Laboratory and Oncology services as well as providing a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services.

Located at Holmesglen Institute of Tafe’s Moorabbin campus, the hospital will provide clinical practice as well as teaching and research for nursing and allied health students. This exciting new development will form the Holmesglen Health Precinct and the range of services available will reduce the need for local residents to travel outside the Bayside area for anything other than the most highly specialised types of treatment.


Holmesglen Private Hospital will be a comprehensive acute private hospital integrating clinical practice with teaching and research to provide patient centered, personalised care. It will offer the following services:

  • 147 overnight beds
  • An Emergency Department with 9 treatment bays
  • Critical Care services including 6 Intensive Care beds and 9 Coronary Care Beds
  • 5 Operating Theatres, 1 Cardiac Catheter Laboratory and 2 Procedure Rooms
  • Oncology services including 12 Chemotherapy treatment bays
  • Private Consulting Suites
  • Teaching, Training, Education and Research
  • Diagnostic Imaging, Pharmacy and Pathology
  • Coffee shop
  • On-site car parking

Healthscope and Holmesglen Institute have partnered to incorporate integrated cross campus education and training facilities within the clinical areas of the hospital and simulation laboratories of the institute. These facilities will enable clinical training for undergraduate nursing and allied health students and postgraduate nursing, medical and allied health students and will be an important centre for research, driving quality outcomes and best practice care for our patients.

Medical and surgical care at Healthscope’s Como Private Hospital in Parkdale will continue until Holmesglen Private Hospital open’s at which time they will transfer to the new facility, leaving an expanded Rehabilitation Service at Como Private Hospital.
